Aeromexico Jet Strikes Tail on Runway at Madrid-Barajas, Suffers Heavy Damage

An Aeromexico 767 jet suffered heavy damage to its tail while taking off from Madrid-Barajas International Airport on Tuesday.

Reports say there were gusty winds when the incident occurred.

Pilots on Aeromexico Flight 002 climbed to a safe altitude to jettison fuel and made a safe return to land at 16:25.

Two cabin attendants suffered minor injuries.

Inspection after landing showed heavy damage to the tail keel.

The incident is under investigation.
