Dramatic Video From Ground Shows Sparks Streaming Behind Jet

A Turkish Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing Izmir Airport in Turkey early this morning when an apparent lightning strike took out the right-hand engine.

Turkish Flight 2348, an Airbus A321 with 112 passengers aboard, was inbound from Istanbul (Ataturk Airport) and was able to make a safe landing with no injuries reported. However, there was considerable fear among the passengers.

Video (seen below) shows sparks streaming from the disabled right-hand engine, and then dramatic video from the ground shows a trail of sparks streaming from the aircraft.

Passengers reported the aircraft was struck by lightning.
