Turkish Airlines Places Huge Airbus Order for 117 A320 Family Airplanes

Turkish Airlines has now signed the biggest deal in the history of Turkish Civil Aviation with the purchase of 117 Airbus A320 series aircraft.

The signing ceremony was held in the General Management Building of Turkish Airlines and included the participation of Finance Minister of Turkey’ Mr. Mehmet Şimşek, Transport – Maritime Affairs and Communications Minister of Turkey’, Mr. Binali Yıldırım, Turkish Airlines’ Board Chairman, Mr. Hamdi Topçu, Turkish Airlines’ CEO, Mr. Temel Kotil Ph.D. and the President and CEO of Airbus, Mr. Fabrice Bregier. According to the deal, 25 A321, 4 A320 NEO, 53 A321 NEO and options for 35 additional A321 NEO are to be delivered by 2015.

With the addition of these new aircraft, the fleet of Turkish Airlines will total 375, including cargo airplanes. And the average fleet age will decrease to 5 years from its current 6.6, by the end of 2020.

Deciding on the aircraft to be added to our fleet and placing an order according to those needs was one of the important milestones of our growth targets. We took these important decisions recently and announced the largest aircraft order in Turkish Civil Aviation history. Today, we are signing an agreement with Airbus which will enable Turkish Airlines to reach its aims for the year 2023, the centenary of the foundation of our Republic. This agreement constitutes a giant step for Turkish Airlines on the way to becoming the biggest airline in Europe.” said Mr. Hamdi Topçu, Board Chairman of Turkish Airlines.
