United Airlines Flight 1529 Diverts to Salt Lake City, Windshield Crack

A United Airlines flight from Portland, Oregon (PDX) to Houston (IAH) diverted to Salt Lake City Airport (SLC) on Wednesday when the plane developed a crack in the cockpit windshield.

United Flight 1529, a Boeing 737-900 with 169 passengers and crew, landed safely at 1:57 PM local time.

There were no injuries reported.

United spokesman Charles Hobart issued Airnation.net the following statement:

‘United Flight 1529, a Boeing 737 with 169 customers and crewmembers onboard en route from Portland, Ore. to Houston, experienced a crack in a cockpit window about 45 minutes after takeoff. The crew elected to divert to Salt Lake City International Airport, where the flight landed routinely. Maintenance crews are examining the aircraft and we are working to accommodate customers on different airplanes.’
